Specials of the Day

In addition to our seasonal menu, we run a daily Specials menu that provides you with the freshest, tastiest local ingredients we can get our hands on. We do put considerable emphasis on the fresh fish that is landed daily at Newlyn Fish Market. We are very fortunate to have a great relationship with our fish suppliers and get regular early morning updates from the market to choose from.

Below is an example of a typical day’s specials – as a polite reminder please consider that this is a sample, the menu on a particular day that you visit the bar and dining room at Blacks may well have a different selection of dishes.

Mussels (Starter or Main)

Local wild mussels cooked in a marinière broth and served with Blacks’ malted bread

Scallops (Starter)

Fresh local scallops, pan fried and served with black pudding, spiced carrot puree, basil & lemon

Fish of the Day

Whole locally caught Dover Sole (oven baked), simply served with parsley new potatoes and seasonal vegetables

Hake Loin

Pan roasted and set on a warm potato, beetroot & rocket salad topped with crispy bacon & herb oil


Oven baked and served with an artichoke gratin, celeriac puree & kohrabi salsa

Shellfish Platter

Seared scallops, crab claws, jumbo crevettes, razor clams and steamed mussels served with garlic butter, salad garnish and fresh bread
