Humphry Davy Birthday Lantern Parade 2017
Penzance Christmas
Things to do in Penzance this Christmas – come and see the Humphry Davy Birthday Lantern Parade!

Saturday 16th of December will be a day of celebrations and festivities in Penzance. Not only will there be a great Christmas market in town, but the exciting lantern procession is worth seeing. It will start at the top of Causewayhead at 16:30 and work down through to the Humphry Davy Statue. From there it will come to Chapel Street – and where better to watch the fun than from Blacks of Chapel Street.
Thanks to the closing of Chapel Street to traffic there will be plenty of opportunities to walk and explore what this delightful part of town has to offer. There are some great galleries and shops for Christmas gifts and we are open for mulled wine and hot mince pies. Not only that, we will have some seating outside in Chapel Street where you can grab some great food and watch what is happening.
So come on down to Blacks of Chapel Street and check out our Winter lunchtime menu.

Montol 2017
Time to Celebrate Montol 2017
The great thing about this time of year is the chance to take part in a variety of festivities and parties. One of our favourites, simply for the sheer fun of it all, is Penzance’s Montol. Put simply, a reinvention of a traditional Cornish mid-winter customs and practices.

In 2017, Blacks of Chapel Street is delighted to have been asked to help sponsor towards the event. We would like to invite you to join us at the bar and dining room in Chapel Street to watch the afternoon and evening unfold.
First up is the Sundown Procession from the top of Causewayhead which will lead to a gathering for ‘Fire and Song’ in Chapel Street.
The choosing of the Lord of Misrule will happen just above Blacks of Chapel Street, outside the Union Hotel.
Then the main procession will commence at 1800 from Chapel Street with the evening culminating with the late night procession and ‘Chalking of the Mock’ outside the Admiral Benbow at about 10 pm.
So keep yourself energised and warm by visiting Blacks of Chapel Street. We have plenty of mulled cider/wine, hot teas & coffees, mince-pies and our full range of food and drinks available. Check our drinks menu here

Warm up at Blacks
Christmas Lights Switch On
Today, Saturday 25th of November is the Christmas Lights switch on in Penzance. A great day to see the streets turned over to pedestrians and people free to walk around town and explore the shops and take part in the start of the festivities.

Chapel Street is, believe it or not, also closed to traffic (although we have had an interesting morning watching some who think that if they drive the wrong way up the one-way system nobody will notice…). This has allowed Blacks to place tables and chairs outside, with a lovely big heater and blankets to help take away the winter chill (authentic!). But even better is the great choice of food and drinks on offer.
All this lunchtime and through the afternoon there is a winter warming menu with some delicious food to chose from. If you are looking for a hot jumbo bagel with a range of tasty fillings, or maybe a bowl of heart-warming soup, then we have plenty of choices.
Alongside the regular selection of Voyager coffees and Novus teas, we have put together a couple of hot alcoholic drinks – a mulled cider and a mulled wine. These have been quality checked this morning and are just great for keeping the spirits up on this cold winter’s day.
So if you are in Penzance this afternoon for the big Christmas lights switch on, make sure you come down Chapel Street as part of your explorations.
Open tonight as well for the regular evening menu, including daily fish specials – we won’t be expecting you to sit outside as Chapel Street will be allowing cars to use it again, but the real fire will be lit inside and you will be assured of a warm welcome by all the team at Blacks.
Delicious Pie For Dinner
Individual Beef & Red Wine Pie

The kitchen team have excelled themselves today with the crafting of a delicious individual beef & red wine pie. The tasty dish has been complemented with roasted vegetables, buttered mash and a housemade jus that sets it off perfectly.
So if you are looking for a freshly made and filling meal to keep yourself content and warm this February, come down to Blacks of Chapel Street.
Other Specials Available
If you don’t fancy the dish of the day (and we can’t believe that you wouldn’t!) there are plenty of other choices to consider. Blacks of Chapel Street has a range of specials and standard menu fare on offer. With daily fresh fish delivered from Newlyn and proper vegetarian options, you will find something to enjoy.
Why not check out the menu items from the website or call in to see us.
