South African Inspired Menu at Blacks of Chapel Street

Here’s the Menu for November 17th at 7.30pm 

Who better to put together a South African inspired menu than a South African Chef? Fortunately, Nick (Head Chef at Blacks of Chapel Street) is such a person and he has been working hard on putting together a showcase menu for you to try in November 2017. So come to Blacks of Chapel Street and experience something different in Penzance.

Five courses including a cocktail or South African beer on arrival for £47.50 per person.

First Course –

Traditional Durban Style Vegetable Curry

Served with mini poppadums & puffed wild rice

Second Course –

Wildebeest Tartar

Finely minced fillet infused with gherkins, capers & chilli – topped with a free-range egg yolk and served with our own bread


Mealiepap on Smoor

A light South African maize porridge topped with a slow roasted tomato confit, feta and blistered sage

Third Course –

Spiced Ostrich Fillet

Served rare, with a bacon & mushroom layered potato, asparagus and a traditional atchar (spicy sweet & sour chutney)


Vegetarian Bobottie

A traditional spiced lentil dish with onion, garlic and green beans served with jolly rice & almonds

Fourth Course –

Braai (BBQ) Hake Loin

Brushed with an apricot & garlic glaze set on an atchar puree with butternut salad, sautéed okra & grilled greens


South African Pumpkin Cakes

Infused with cinnamon, cumin and nutmeg and served with salad leaf & chilli yogurt

Fifth Course –


Fried doughnuts steeped in a lemon syrup and set on a hazelnut & vanilla icecream
